Make the Right Bathroom Flooring Choice

There is no one right choice for bathroom flooring. Every situation is going to be different depending on how busy your household is, the ages of the members of your household and your own personal preferences. Money, and how much you want to spend will also factor in to your choice.

Tile has always been a popular choice for a bathroom and for good reason. It is very durable, easy to clean and will hold up to moisture if installed correctly. The only downsides are that it is not as easy on the feet as other flooring, and if a very heavy object is dropped, it could crack.

Slate is becoming more popular all the time. Slate is a little more costly unless you install it yourself. Slate tiles are probably the best choice for a do-it-yourself project.

Marble floors are beautiful, but are not the best choice for a very busy household that gets a lot of traffic.

Wood floors are not a good choice for bathroom floors because of the moisture. If you want the look of a wood floor, install a laminate. If they are properly installed they afford the look you want and the surface will hold up well to moisture.

There are more laminates available, aside from the wood laminates. You can also find laminate flooring in a tile version rather than the long planks of wood laminates. The tile laminates mimic the look of natural stone and lock together like the wood laminates. One advantage to these is that they are not as heavy as real stone or tile.

Resilient flooring is also another choice and is found in a wide variety of colors and patterns, including some with texture that mimic stone and tile.

Vinyl, one form of resilient flooring holds up well to moisture, is easy to clean, and is easy on the feet. Vinyl is priced from very reasonable to quite expensive depending on what you select.

Linoleum is another resilient flooring that has had a much longer history than the new vinyls. With all the new colors and patterns it is experiencing a comeback. Linoleum is a more environmentally friendly product since it is made of natural materials and is biodegradable. Linoleum is often chosen by homeowners for this reason.

The best way to choose the right bathroom floor for you is to do some in depth shopping, determine which qualities you find the most favorable for your situation and what you will be the most happy with over time.
